Chelonian Research Monographs - Number 5

CHELONIAN RESEARCH MONOGRAPHS

The fifth offering in this series, coming out in gradual fashion in online and hardcopy versions, is the following major work, produced under the auspices of the IUCN/SSC Tortoise and Freshwater Turtle Specialist Group (TFTSG). This work has been under gradual preparation for the last several years. Publication of individual species accounts began online on the TFTSG website on 15 May 2008, with gradual publication of accounts as they are finished, followed by annual hardcopy publications thereafter. The work is loosely modeled on the format established by the Catalogue of American Amphibians and Reptiles (CAAR). The entire work will consist of nearly 2000 pages of text, eventually covering all 300+ species of freshwater turtles and tortoises of the world. Each species account will be standardized to include color photos of the species, a color distribution map, and sections on Taxonomy, Distribution, Habitat and Ecology, Population Status, Threats to Survival, Conservation Measures Taken, Conservation Measures Proposed, Captive Husbandry, Current Research, and Literature Cited.

Check out and download the online published accounts as they are gradually published on the TFTSG website. To obtain high-quality hardcopy printed versions of the annually-produced accounts, order your subscription below. One price covers all annual publications to be produced as this project progresses. Hardcopy accounts will be distributed annually in December.

All who have paid for this monograph during the many years of lower-priced pre-publication offers will receive high-quality looseleaf printed copies of all published accounts, plus a quality color binder to hold accounts as they accumulate (as done for CAAR). Eventually we will also offer bound hardcopy editions of accumulated accounts. Please be sure to update us regarding your current mailing and email addresses if you pre-purchased this set previously.
